Type A Silica Gel is a desiccant and used to dry and maintain the humidity of a
contained area. The term “Non-Indicating” means this type of silica gel
does not change color when it needs to be changed. Non-indicating Silica Gel granular desiccant is manufactured by using sodium silicate to create a porous form of silicon dioxide (SiO2). It consists of 97% silica and 3% alumina with a highly porous surface and a lust for absorbing water.
While used to reduce moisture in packages when stored, our bulk Silica Gel desiccant is typically used to dry compressed air and gas. Dew points of -40°F can be achieved with Silica Gel granular desiccant when using a compressed air dryer or gas dryer. Silica Gel can also be used as a catalyst carrier, separator, variable-pressure adsorbents, and other purposes.
As silica gel fractures in the presence of liquid water, it is typically protected by a 10% to 15% (by weight) layer of Activated Alumina desiccant as a water buffer on the inlet side of the desiccant bed.
